Leaders

The more kids interact with what they are learning, the better they learn it. People usually remember 20% of what they hear, 50% of what they see, and 90% of what they do. Therefore, successful activity planning stresses learning-by-doing, which means that kids do the work themselves.

In contrast, lecturing or simply talking to kids and not allowing them to engage in "hands-on" activities are less effective ways to teach.

Santa Ynez 4-H leaders structure their projects with plenty of hands-on!

Santa Ynez 4-H parents are the heart and soul of our volunteer leader program. Our leaders seek to guide our youth and our club in the 4-H tenets of clearer thinking, greater loyalty, larger service, and better living.

Always on the lookout to offer our members a larger number of diverse project opportunities, we encourage enthusiasts and specialists from the community to join the Santa Ynez 4-H leadership team. Your commitment can be as little as 6 hours or just one weekend during the program year.

Please use the handy form on our Contact page to pitch your project ideas or to simply ask, "What can I do to help?" We have established curricula and 4-H leader guidebooks available in every imaginable area, so help and guidance is always nearby.

For our 2007-2008 program year, which actively begins after our September enrollment meeting, we are particularly interested in attracting leaders with talents and experience in the following specialty areas:
