Cinema Arts

Considered old technology by today's moviemaking standards, the Canon XL-1 is nonetheless the production workhorse of all Cinema Arts field productions.
The XL-1 gives project participants the opportunity to produce professional video via an easy interface that has both automatic and manual controls.
The Cinema Arts project is a basic course in filmmaking for 4-H members from 10-19; the collaborative nature of the filmmaking craft leads itself nicely to this project’s foundational focus on the important life skills of teamwork and communication.
Service learning is also emphasized — the Cinema Arts team takes their show on the road to apply skills they learn to some form of community service. For example, during the 2006-2007 program year, participants produced video greeting cards at Solvang Friendship House. At that shoot, senior's delivered their greetings to loved ones in front of Cinema Arts cameras, these clips were transferred to DVD, and then the completed featurettes were sent to the seniors’ recipients of choice, all at no cost to anyone involved.
In late winter 2007, project participants divided into production teams to begin work on their 4-H promotional music video, “Head Heart Hands and Health We Are.”
