Santa Ynez 4-H Club

Drama

The Santa Ynez 4-H Drama project is currently a teen-led performance troupe that gathers for regular practice in dramatic techniques, fantastically fun theatre games, and production and presentation of 4-H themed scripts.

Please see our Drama page for details.

Welcome to Santa Ynez 4-H, one of Santa Barbara County's premier service learning clubs for youth between the ages of 5 and 19. We are thrilled to greet all new and returning members, parents, and volunteer leaders with enthusiasm and warmth, nestling them into our fold with a genuine respect for individual gifts and talents — and excited by our youth's infectious passion to make a difference.

Indeed, 4-H is about straying from the mainstream and achieving more. It's about practicing life skills such as teamwork and communication, goal setting and responsible citizenship, cooperation and sharing. It's about learning to problem-solve, learning to engage in critical thinking, and learning to lead.

But most of all, 4-H is about having fun!

Santa Ynez 4-H offers its members a rousing mix of hands-on and community service activities, or projects, and as you probably know, many of our projects are focused on animals and their care. Our club features rich traditions in dairy goats, rabbits, horses, cattle and swine. We've even been known to dabble in raising cavies, or guinea pigs, and we try to tie it all together via one of our most popular animal projects, veterinary science. Please visit our Projects section to discover even more about the fabulous sort of fun we're having this year with all of our four-legged friends.

but it's not just about raising animals...

It's true: 4-H is rooted in a long history of raising animals amid the rural lifestyle. At Santa Ynez 4-H, we honor the valuable life skills our youth learn and practice throughout the course of every one of our great animal projects. However, to us, 4-H is also about communication and technology, cultural and home arts, and healthy outdoor living.

We're proud to offer youth the opportunity to join our Backpacking group, (a perennial favorite), and our Scrapbook project members get the dual pleasure of sharing memories and family traditions with each other while they create their memory books. Each of these projects offer kids a terrific opportunity to build a healthy sense of self.

As well, imagine the great fun our members have at our Foods project meetings: learning to cook, learning to share, learning about where food really comes from, and what it takes to get it from field to table.

For those drawn to disciplines intimately bundled to the Information Age, we have projects in computers, aerospace and rocketry, and filmmaking. In fact, our very own TV Show, 4-H TV, is now in production and airing on Comcast Cable channel 25!!

Of course, learning how to be an effective communicator is one of the most important life skills of all, and at Santa Ynez 4-H, we're proud to offer project opportunities in Communication (public speaking) and Drama.

And so, welcome again to Santa Ynez 4-H. We're happy that you've decided to spend some of your valuable time to tour our online home. We hope to make your visit very worthwhile. As you journey through these pages — your very own virtual portal to our heart and soul — we also hope that you'll consider joining us. The annual enrollment fee at Santa Ynez 4-H is just $25 per youth member.

For more info, please consider joining us at our next meeting on October 1st at 7 p.m. in the gym at Santa Ynez Elementary School for our annual registration meeting.
